I’m a bit lacking in mojo at the mo. Don’t want to exercise, don’t want to do much of anything really. I rather suspect it’s the time of year. I’m trying to ignore it and get on with things anyway!
Before Christmas I went for a run on a chilly, chilly morning. -3 Celsius, according to Wunderground. I was puttering along fairly happily, when I ran past this box with a sign saying ‘please take’. My brain went ‘oh, those are aloe plants’ as I went merrily past. I then spent, oh, 50m debating whether it could possibly be aloe, because who would leave aloe plants out when it was -3? And did I really want one anyway, because we used to have one and I don’t think Clarkie liked it.
Yeah, next thing I know I’ve circled back and picked up a pretty frozen aloe plant.
I ran nearly 3km holding the house plant, at school drop-off time. We live within walking distance of several schools, and we weren’t in full lockdown, so there were a lot of people around. Ah well. There are worse things than being the crazy running plant lady.
I got it home, and it really did feel pretty solidly frozen. Aloes don’t really like going below about 5 Celsius, so I wasn’t sure it would make it. It’s lost a couple of its spikes, and it was so tiny it only had five to start with. I’ve been fretting about it turning to mush ever since. It lives in my office, and I’ve been moving it onto the window ledge in the morning and back to my desk in the evening, and talking to it and all sorts. My spider plant has been getting quite jealous.
Today, I noticed it’s started getting a new spike!
It has clearly decided to live.
