Having gone through and listed my ‘in progress‘ projects, I thought I’d have a bit of an update on where they got to after I had a week off!
Not that I spent the whole week on them, obviously. We had a lovely trip into Oxford on Monday and went to the Museum of Natural History, which has an absolutely stunning building.
It was all round fascinating. Way more to explore than we could take in in a single visit. There’s a small album of photos over on Flickr.
We also helped some friends move house, so that took a bit of time and energy. Fun though! In a weird, very glad it’s not us kind of way, and it did feel good to be helpful.
So, how about those projects?
Well. The knitting went reasonably well (with some swearing – the pattern was wrong). I’ve got the red v-neck nearly done, it just needs a bit of ribbing around the neck and some ends sewing in. And blocking, of course. The turquoise jacket thingummy also made progress. All the ends are now more or less woven in, I’ve shortened the zip (more swearing) and now it looks a bit like a pincushion.
I fell in love with the colour of this yarn, but it’s been a right ball-ache at every stage. I don’t think I can get this through my sewing machine, so the zip will have to be hand stitched. It’s waiting (with a large proportion of my pins) while I build up to that!
Sewing-wise, I got a couple more circles stitched on the cream top, and I made a pattern for the patchwork one. The pattern confirmed what I’d suspected – the sleeves are not quite wide enough, by an irritatingly small amount. Still, better to find out at this point. The quilt has had no work done on it, but I am currently sitting under it anyway.
I broke out the sewing machine today because I clearly didn’t have enough projects so I thought I’d start three more. I made most of another mask, turned up the trousers that were on the adjustments pile, and shortened a shirt. It was an online order, and it turned up in a lovely fabric, great shape, but a bit more length than I like. Honestly I’ve not done my very best on that, but it’s an improvement and I left it long enough to revisit if I have more energy/care more in future.
The other projects I started were for two really small zipped pouches. It turns out that really small + zips = difficult/fiddly, and I was not in the mood. Those will go back to waiting – no rush. I may decide to hand-stitch them too.
So I started with 9 projects, spent a week at home with them, completely finished 2 and ended up with… 11 projects. Sounds about right!
