Feet again
In spite of having most of the day to myself this is all I managed to draw today. I didn’t get the shapes quite right, I’ll have to try again. Instead I ran 10k, did some laundry, picked blackcurrants and stewed them and baked a cake with them, had a long nap, and a chat…

Dreams
This is how I wish I’d spent my afternoon! Although honestly I think it was probably too warm even in the shade. It definitely was too warm to spend it upstairs at a computer. I still need to work on a few things, but this was a reference-free sketch from imagination. It’s not so bad.

Lunchtime sketches
One of the best bits about working from home in the summer is lunch outside. Clarkie is currently between jobs (I was goin to say unemployed, but she’s thoroughly employed doing a lot of DIY around the house), so we get to eat together. Unfortunately she moved a lot sooner than I expected! Instead I…

Doorway
I was imagining a small old doorway in a big medieval wall, somewhere like Valletta maybe. This was as far as I got. The wall will take forever!

The Oval in colour
I went back and painted yesterday’s picture. It gives a reasonable impression, although in not sure the groundsman would be thrilled with my interpretation of their carefully mown stripes!

The Oval
As an ex-Surrey player, Clarkie was invited to the England Vs New Zealand match at the women’s T20 world cup (cricket, for those in the most of the world that don’t follow it). When Charlie played for Surrey at the Oval it was empty. How things have changed in 15 years. It was a good…

Snake plant
I have this plant on my desk, and I wanted to see if I could get the pale edges and dark mottling all in black ink. It’s a snake plant, or as I grew up calling it “Mother-in-law’s tongue”. I’ve seen it called Sansevieria, but when I just checked the spelling apparently that’s ‘formerly’. Anyway.…

Garden Chair
Clarkie made a chair. I’ve been finding it really comfy! It might be a little lower to the ground than the versions that they sell, but I like the beach chair vibe. I should probably have carried on with the background once I’d started!

Ficus
I’ve had this ficus since I got my first flat after university, 25 years ago. It liked our last house better I think, but it’s doing ok. I got a bit caught up in the leaves, which was very restful. Certainly more restful than the cricket highlights, anyway!
