    Headshots 23-26

Another 4, including two with glasses after yesterday’s train effort! The bottom 3 were drawn directly in ink, no pencil under sketch. Well, 2025 is drawing to a close, but I’m not feeling like stopping drawing just yet. We’ll keep going, and see what 2026 might bring.

    Big London day out

I went into London to catch up with a group of my school friends. I was kind of early, and the sketch on the left is from my coffee stop outside Paddington. Then we met at the Anchor,. Bankside, and I was still early so that’s the middle sketch. The one on the right is…

    Headshot 22

Just one today. I’ve been a bit out of sorts, and Clarkie had her one day off so there’s a lot to do. I’m still roughing things out in pencil first, and I’m definitely not getting distances right off the bat. That’s a thing to work on. Also, not sure I got a good afro…

    Headshots 19-21

Another day of only 3. Whoops. I kept going with the fude nib and grey water brush, but I watered down the grey a bit. It’s given me a little more delicacy with the shadows, I think. It’s tricky to hatch without accidentally giving people goaties, so that’s a thing I need to work on!

    Headshots 16-18

I’m officially behind! I went for a walk with some friends this afternoon instead, and now we’re going out for drinks. Anyway. We’re back to me drawing from photos today. The first two filled up yesterday’s page, and the last one tried swapping to shading with my grey water brush. Not sure I’ve got that…

    Headshots 9-15

I tried something different today. I copied faces drawn by other ink artists. They aren’t great, but I copied pro artists so… There are two from Chris Riddell (top and bottom left), two from Charles Dana Gibson (top and left middle), and one each for Simone Grünewald (middle middle), Marcos Mateu-Mestre (middle right), and C…

    Headshots 2-8

This is absolutely going to be a challenge. Doing 7 today took a lot, and I had nothing better to do! Using the proportions from Loomis is proving to be a good skeleton. I’m finding it easier to tweak as needed – give someone a longer chin, say, or pull the hair forward. We’ll see…

    Headshot 1

Ok… I’m going for a whole lot of heads. The 100 heads challenge from Ahmed Aldoori was supposed to be done in 10 days. That is not a thing I’m prepared to commit to, but I’m game to try for 50 before I go back to work on January 2nd. Let’s see, that’s 49 after…

  • Features

    Features

I realised I had paid for a Domestika course on drawing faces at some point (I’m sure it was one of their 99p sales). I went and checked it out again. Honestly, I think it’s a not great. There’s some interesting detail about the underlying shapes, but I think the Loomis dimensions feel closer. Other…

  • Houses finished

    Houses finished

I’m calling these houses done now. Two identical bases that ended up quite different. You do get that on slightly older estates sometimes, but mostly I was just playing!

  • Not quite

    Not quite

Well. It’s a face, but it’s not very like the photo. I really need to work on features. The eyes here feel wrong and noses are tricky!

  • Bed

    Bed

I had an idea. This wasn’t quite it! Got my relative sizes wrong. I need to work on that. Still, not too bad I guess. Maybe I’ll have a go at the other idea tomorrow.
